Lee Daniels is a very interesting kind of director. He’s what one may call fearless. He doesn’t care what anyone thinks and he is determined to deliver something memorable, even if it is memorable for the wrong reasons. He builds films with strong central dynamics, finding a core drive in the theatrical aggressive nature of the material. That isn’t to say his films are theatrical but that they thrive on the explosions developed within the scenes. His movies are gritty and earthy and visually off putting and yet they explode with raw aggression. Whether you love him or hate him you can’t help but admire him. I’ve seen a few of his projects, and while I’ve never LOVED any of them, I can certainly see his signature stamp and vision throughout. He knows the type of film he wants to make and he knows how to make it. He takes risks, and that is something admirable in a director because so many of them try hard NOT to take those risks. While I don’t find him entirely successful in his efforts, I do wish that more directors were as fearless as he is.
So that brings me to The Butler, his latest film (set for release next year). The internet has been abuzz with word on this film for a few months now. Oprah herself is tweeting pictures left and right in promotion of this film (so glad she’s promoting a creative mind instead of Tyler Perry) and it’s at the top of most Oscar prognosticators lists for Oscary fare next year. I mean, I think we can all agree that Oprah is probably going to win the Supporting Actress Oscar next year, right?
So, this post comes in inspiration of that very actress and her recent Tweet of a love scene she does with Terrence Howard in the film. Check it out.
How do we feel about this? Is it as sexy as it appears to be? I mean, I’ve never found myself attracted to Oprah and then again, damn; she nails this. Am I right? Delusional? What the hell? Great Oscar campaign Oprah. I think her eventual Oscar win will be seen as one of the most beloved moments in Oscar history. I mean, who on Earth is more beloved than Oprah?
That’s right; no one.
