Good evening, Mr. Hitchcock - Fox Searchlight puts "Hitchcock" in this year's Oscar race

Fox Searchlight has just slotted Sacha Gervasi's Hitchcock for a November 23 limited, platform release, right in the middle of the highway to awards season.

Based on Stephen Rebello's 1998 non-fiction book "Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho", the movie follows Hitchcock and Alma Reville's love story during his almost "epic battle" to get the future horror classic Psycho done. The screenplay was written by John J. McLaughlin (Black Swan) and the drama stars Sir Anthony Hopkins as the legendary director, Helen Mirren as his wife Alma, Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, James D'Arcy as Anthony Perkins, Michael Stuhlbarg as Lew Wasserman, Jessica Biel as Vera Miles and Toni Collette as Hitchcock's assistant Peggy Robertson.

I was expecting Hitchcock to be released in 2013 and I'm not sure about such an early release... I mean, post-production work is crucial for the movie's quality (editing work, sound, etc...), but maybe I'm just making a storm in a glass of water. The movie may have big chances in the Best Leading Actor (Anthony Hopkins) and in the Best Leading Actress (Helen Mirren) categories and may have some chances in the Best Supporting Actress (Scarlett Johansson plays Janet Leigh and the AMPAS loves an actress playing another actress) and maybe Production Design, Costume Design or Editing fields. Sacha Gervasi may be making his movie directorial debut, but he already directed an highly-acclaimed documentary and if people may have some doubts about his directorial talents, I just hope the movie rocks, because the material and the cast just seem too damn good to be wasted.

Here's the movie's IMDb synopsys:
"Sir Anthony Hopkins stars in the film, formerly known as "Alfred Hitchock And The Making Of Psycho," touted as a biographical comedy-drama that presents a behind-the-scenes look at the film, which was marred with controversy due to complaints about violence, nudity and other sexual content and claims that a body double was used in Leigh's place during the shower murder scene. It will also focus on Hitchcock's relationship with his wife Alma Reville, played by Dame Helen Mirren. The "Hitchcock" plot follows the troubled financing of Psycho," the directors battles with Hollywood censors and Hitchcocks desire to prove to his doubters, his wife and himself that he still had an edge."
