I think it's time to give Streep her third Oscar win: she's just too overdue and she delivered a technically perfect performance as one of the most controversial and powerful women in History - Margaret Thatcher. People say Viola Davis will win this one for The Help, but I think the AMPAS doesn't want to loose its credibility and we will see Meryl accepting the prize.

Octavia Spencer's Oscar buzz keeps strong, in spite of Bérénice Bejo, who emmerged as a possible win due to all the love around The Artist. We can't forget that Spencer collected all the major Best Supporting Actress awards and, as part of The Help's cast, a big couple of the Best Ensemble ones, so, she's likely to win the Oscar.

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
I don't think the Academy will want to see one of the best movies of the year going home without any golden man and the screenplay categories are used as honorable prizes for the ones who didn't win the Best Picture but deserve something for being so good. That's why The Descendants will likely win in this category, unless there's a George Clooney curse and Moneyball will win this one, like what happened with Up In the Air's loss to Precious.

BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
It is a tricky category, where a lot of little foreign cinematic masterpieces like Amélie or Pan's Labyrinth lost to its fellow nominees. A Separation is by far the most awarded foreign movie of the movie and one of the best movies of the year and it deserves the Oscar of Best Foreign Language Film for sure, but the AMPAS doesn't make the most conventional choices sometimes.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
I think it will be an easy win for Rango. Since The Adventures of Tintin didn't get nominated in this category (what a shock!), Rango emmerged as a future Best Animated Feature Oscar winning movie. It's funny, it's full of energy and it's a really well-made piece of cinema... A win is almost guaranteed.

There's something seductive about a 3D documentary about dance. Since it was also Germany's Best Foreign Film Oscar submission, I can see Pina as the most seen documentary of the nominees shortlist and since people say it is amazing (I didn't see this one), it is a strong contender for a win.

If there's something truly wonderful about Hugo are the sets and the sets' pieces: they make the whole scenario look magic and fantastic and the clocks and the train station are just amazing! The art direction work in Hugo is strong enough in order to beat the "monumental" Hogwarths from Harry Potter.

The Academy loves to pay attention to the costumes detail's and that's why I believe Jane Eyre will beat Hugo and The Artist in the Best Costume Design race. You can almost feel the touch of all the clothes in Jane Eyre by only watch them - it's a perfect costume design work, with a lot of flawless details that make you look and then look closer...

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY
The black&white cinematic mood is a showcase for cinematography, even when the cinematography work isn't that complex and impressive - that's what happens in The Artist. The movie may not have a cinematography work as strong as The Tree of Life's but being a black&white movie and being the Best Picture strongest contender put it in the winning road.

The dancing scenes in The Artist are just awesome! You don't know if Dujardin and Bejo are such good dancers, but the fact is that the editing work make them look like true "dancing queens".

Personally, I think it sounds awful saying that the Harry Potter franchise never won an Academy Award and let's be honest: it deserves something! The last chapter of the saga got 3 nominations and the Best Makeup category looks like the one where it has more chances at winning. In spite of the obvious winner of the category being The Iron Lady, the makeup work in Harry Potter is magnificient and it is Oscar-worthy, definetely!

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE
A movie without people talking could become boring if it wouldn't have an amazing score and the truth is the silence of The Artist only elevates the quality of its score and makes the audience listen to this in a much more conscious way than in a "noisy" movie. Plus, The Artist have been collecting (almost) all the most important awards in this category.

The Rise of the Planet of the Apes: it's all about Caesar and about how this monkey character is build from the motion capture of Andy Serkis' amazing performance, creating such a realistic character that's almost intriguing to watch.
