'Drive' is the only film from 2011 that continues to grow and grow in my personal appreciation. It was an outstandingly deep and multifaceted film that understood the importance of subtle shifts and the great melding of style and substance. Judging from this trailer, 'Drive' was no fluke. Gosling and Winding Refn look in top form, and Kristen Scott Thomas is a total bombshell here! I love that the trailer gives nearly nothing away. We gather that presumably Scott Thomas is Gosling's mother. Then we see Asian gangs and fighting and Gosling's beat up face (that we remember from the teaser poster below).
I can't wait to see this movie, and I hope it is as intense, gripping and complex as 'Drive' was. I assume it will be, but assumptions aren't always the best bet. Still, I'm all in for this one. The atmosphere here is ridiculous; the trailer is practically dripping wet with intensity, and the cinematography is outstanding! It is one of my most anticipated of the year, and the fact that it's basically Gosling's swan song for the time being, I can't wait to see him go out with a bang!
