Madonna's. W.E. in Oscar race; Trailer for "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy"; Trailer for "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol";

  • According to Collider, "Madonna’s directorial debut Filth and Wisdom was widely panned but The Weinstein Company clearly has some faith in her follow-up W.E. (or at least in their ability to market it). The studio has sent out a press release announcing that they’ll release the movie on December 9th in the heart of awards season. It makes sense that TWC would try pushing the film into the awards race since the story of W.E. is what was happening off-screen in The King’s Speech. Whereas King’s Speech made King Edward VIII look like a selfish, short-sighted romantic, W.E. will recount his love story with American Wallis Simpson by viewing their relationship through the modern life of Wally Winthrop". Well... to be completely honest, I don't have much faith in W.E., but I can't forget that I didn't have hopes in Slumdog Millionaire or The King's Speech. It doesn't seem the kind of Best Picture Oscar nominee, that's sure, but according to some early reviews from few screen-tests, the movie may have chances in the Best Actress category due to Andrea Riseborough's performance as Wallis Simpsons and in Best Costume Design race as well. Who knows? It MAY be a good movie with some Oscar-quality!... but, by now, I put my money away from Madonna...
  • Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy has a movie trailer and let me say it looks very good! Special attention to Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight), who seems to deliver a great performance in this one, which may bring him the award recognition that such a great actor like him unfortunately lacks. Pay attention to the cinematography and to the scenarios as well. It looks so GREAT! It looks like one of those Old School crime-thrillers... The movie has an impressive ensemble cast composed by Oldman, Colin Firth (The King's Speech), Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes), Tom Hardy (Inception) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Atonement). Here's the trailer:

  • Tom Cruise (Jerry Maguire) is back and while I wouldn't post anything about him because I don't like him as an actor at all (only liked him in Jerry Maguire and in The Last Samurai), I simply don't feel he's acting, but this Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol seems a good action movie, indeed. I'm not a fan of Mission Impossible movies, and I only enjoyed the third one, but Ghost Protocol seems interesting enough to post about it: just look at Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) - this guy will become a major action movie star; pay attention to the action sequences - How does Cruise always survive?; In general, it seems an above average action movie, don't you think? Tom Cruise is starting looking old and I bet his charm won't be enough in order to attract people to the theaters and he may be easily overshadowed by Renner if the last one has enough screen time.
