Ben Affleck to direct and star in "Argo"; Scarlett Johansson to star in "Once" director's next movie; "War Horse" first movie trailer (with Spanish subtitles);

  • According to Collider, "Ben Affleck first started considering Argo as his next project in February. In the months since, Affleck cast Alan Arkin and John Goodman in two supporting roles. Until tonight, Affleck had yet to announce the man to play Tony Mendez, “the CIA exfiltration expert who created a fake Hollywood production to get six Americans who were hiding out at the Canadian ambassador’s out of Iran.” According to Variety, Affleck will assume the lead role himself". I don't know what do you think about this project, but it seems one of the most interesting upcoming movies, specially when the scrip by Chris Terrio was part of the 2010 Black List of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays and Ben Affleck proved that he can be a great director (Gone Baby Gone and The Town). Let's wait and see how it will develop, but, right now, I'm excited about this one...
  • Some reports say that Scarlett Johansson (Lost In Translation) signed to star in the upcoming Once director's (John Carney) project, named Can a Song Save Your Life?. The story will follow “a washed-up A&R man who forms a passionate bond with a young singer-songwriter (Johansson) from out of town, which sounds like another indie musical. The project seems to have a 10 million dollars (or 6.9 million dollars, according few reports) and it marks Johansson's return to low-budget/independent filmmaking. But the most exciting about this project isn't only having a beautiful actress in an indie musical by an interesting director, the most exciting is having all this factors and the chance of having Jim Carrey (Man On the Moon) or Mark Ruffalo (The Kids Are All Right) to take the male leading role. Their names are just rumours, but a lot of rumours come true in the cinema industry. If I was the director, it would be hard to choose who to cast, but maybe I would take Ruffalo, once his work is consistently good, but I would think twice if I had the same Carrey who shined in The Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind...
  • Steven Spielberg's War Horse has its first movie trailer and, man, it just SCREAMS OSCAR! The cinematography seems gorgeous, the score seems great, the atmosphere seems so World War I and the movie itself looks so Old School Classic! God, I think this one will be a both commercial and critical hit and, who knows, maybe one of the best Spielberg's works ever! The children's book that became a Broadway hit and a Hollywood (future) acclaimed production... Here's the trailer:
