Carey Mulligan is Lhurman's Daisy; Shore will compose The Hobbit; Downey Jr. won't feel Gravity; Johansson, Fanning and Fugit will go to the "Zoo";

  • Carey Mulligan is officially cast as Daisy in the upcoming Baz Lhurman's (Moulin Rouge!) adaptation of The Great Gratsby. But it seems that she wasn't the first choice for the role: Lhurman and DiCaprio (the leading male) wanted Scarlett Johansson for the role, but schedule conflits put her out of the role. Now, the British golden girl is set to share the screen with Leonardo DiCaprio (Titanic) and Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man).
    Anyway, Mulligan seems a good choice to me, in spite of the fact that I only see her as the naïve Jenny from An Education, so she has a lot to proove while playing Daisy, a enchanting but spoiled and manipulative girl. Mulligan has the talent, but will she good enough for the role?
  • Howard Shore will compose The Hobbit movies' score. After working with Peter Jackson in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Shore and Jackson will re-team again. Recently, the composer stated that "It looks like finally it’s going to be happening. I’ll be working on it for the next three years — it’s going to consume a lot of my time and work now".
    It seems great news for The Hobbit!
  • According to Collider, "After trying for weeks to work the project into his schedule, Robert Downey Jr. has officially dropped out of talks to star in Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity. The sci-fi 3D flick has been one of the most talked about projects around town. Sandra Bullock is attached to star in the ambitious flick which is supposedly similar to 2000’s Cast Away, in that the female lead is the only actor on screen for the bulk of the film".
    Well, Gravity is becoming less interessing. Sandra Bullock isn't one of my favorite actresses by far and now Robert Downey Jr. won't be in the movie... Can the producers bring Angelina Jolie back to this project? Please?...
  • Scarlett Johansson (Lost In Translation) is officially cast in the upcoming Cameron Crowe's project, an adaptation of Benjamin Mee's memoir We Bought a Zoo, after beating some names like Amy Adams (Junebug) and Rachel McAdams (Mean Girls) who also seemed interested in the role. The movie will have the same name of the book and will star Matt Damon (Good Will Hunting) as the zoo's buyer and Johansson will play his wife who suffers from brain cancer. Elle Fanning (Somewhere) and Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous) will also be part of the cast, making it the second collaboration between Fugit and Crowe.
    We Bought a Zoo will start shooting early next year and will have a December release. Oscar potencial? I don't know, but I can't forget that Cameron Crowe has already written and directed Jerry Maguire and Almost Famous.
