Will Tom Cruise rock in "Rock of Ages"?; "Farragut North" is retitled and will have Gosling in the lead; Rapace Vs Portman for Alien prequel;

  • It seems that New Line has offered to Tom Cruise a supporting role in the big screen version of the Broadway hit musical Rock of Ages. The story takes place 1987 on the Sunset Strip and it's about a small town girl met a big city rocker and in LA’s most famous rock club and they fell in love to the greatest songs of the 80s. Taylor Swift has been rumoured to play the leading female role in this adaptation of the Broadway musical, playing the role of Sherrie the "small town girl".
    It would be awesome to have a GOOD rock musical, so let's cross our fingers and hope it will be something great with a great cast (I'm not talking of Taylor Swift, she's pretty but it may be too risky having her in such a production), a great direction and lots of energy.

  • George Clooney's directing project Farragut North got a new titled and now will be named The Ides of March. Clooney will also write and star the movie alongside the already confirmed "indie star" Ryan Gosling as “a young press spokesman who falls prey to backroom politics”, while Philip Seymour Hoffman has been cast as his veteran boss. Paul Giamatti co-stars as a rival campaign manager, Marisa Tomei plays a New York Times reporter and Evan Rachel Wood seems rumoured to play an intern for the campaign.
    Oscar perfume in this project. Very interesting, for sure!

  • There is no secret that there will be a James Cameron's Alien prequel and there's no secret that such a big production has a lot of actresses interested in the leading role, but it seems that Abbie Cornish (Bright Star), Carey Mulligan (An Education) and Olivia Wilde (House M.D. TV series) are a step back in relation to Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) and Natalie Portman (Black Swan). In fact, the project's director, Ridley Scott, has Rapace in mind for the leading role, but the studio wants Portman. Who will win?
    Rapace is the BIG THING of the moment after her critical sucess and fame she got for portraying Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish movie adaptations of the Millenium trilogy and she's currently starting a career in Hollywood (she will be seen the Sherlock Holmes 2), so, having the leading role in this one would be great for her, less expensive for the studio and such a good thing for the movie itself (a fresh face with great acting chops).
    Portman is getting a lot of Oscar buzz for her performance in Black Swan and living a good moment in her career: FOX may want to use her critical sucess of today and the fame she got with her Star Wars prequels' role some time ago. She may be more bankable than rapace and prettier, but, in my opinion, less interesting as an actress than Rapace (who has a lot to show the world beyond her incredible Lisbeth Salander).
    Which actress would be my choice? Noomi Rapace, with no doubts!
