This year, we have already assisted to one of the major "find-the-right-actress" hunting for the role of Lisbeth Salander in the upcoming David Fincher's remake of the Millenium trilogy, with Rooney Mara (a relatively unknown actress) to be choosen between an All-star list of young actresses.
Now, it seems that Baz Lhurman (Moulin Rouge!) is looking for an actress to star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in his upcoming adaptation of the classic The Great Grabsy. Unfortunatly for him, Nicole Kidman is already too old for the part, so we won't see her working with him again, but there's a list of potencial choices and there's an Australian actress between the names: Abbie Cornish. So here's the list, WITHOUT Cornish:
- Rebecca Hall;
- Amanda Seyfried;
- Michelle Williams;
- Keira Knightley;
- Scarlett Johansson;
- Natalie Portman;
- Blake Lively;
In my opinion, Abbie Cornish would be the best choice and she seems to me to be the most likely actress to get the part (she was great in Jane's Campion's Bright Star, she's really beautiful and she's Australian like Lhurman), but it seems that the director wants someone who has a great chemistry with DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire (who will play a more supporting role). Lhurman is doing script reads with the two male actors and the Daisy's role candidate.
So, I would choose Abbie Cornish for the role - she has everything to be the choosen actress - but the competition is huge and I won't be surprised if another actress (more famous than Cornish) gets the role.
