Academy Awards 2011 Best Director nominees predictions (2nd round)

Lisa Cholodenko for The Kids Are All Right - being the director and writer of one of the most acclaimed movies of the year, Lisa Cholodenko may see her work being recognized by the Academy for The Kids Are All Right. In fact, she wrote a very good script, but we're not talking about screenplays yet, and made good actors shine like they never did before. A good director is the one who, besides being able to make a good movie, is able to make his/her movie's cast deliver good performance, which means that a good actor must have a lot of sensibility and Cholodenko proved that directing a sucessful and acclaimed indie movie like The Kids Are All Right. Last year, the Academy awarded a female director, I think they won't be affraid to deserve another one if she deserves...

David Fincher for The Social Network - known as a respectful and a Academy Award nominee director, David Fincher has a great body of work with some "almost-legendary-masterpieces" like Se7en, Fight Club or The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. This year, he fights for the Oscar of Best Director with THE most antecipated movie of 2010 after Inception - The Social Network, the "Facebook-movie". The early reviews gave raves to the movie and to the directing work and this maybe one of the Fincher's biggest chances to take an Oscar home. Great body of work, great director and a promising great movie, Fincher has his Oscar nod for Best Director secure and he may win this one!

Alejandro González-Iñárritu for Biutiful - after receiving a standing ovation when Biutiful was first seen at Cannes Film Festival and with such a brilliant body of work (21 Grams and Babel), another Oscar nod seems coming fast to Iñárritu. In fact, the movie is described as "too depressing" for some audiences but the fact is that Babel was a little bit depressing too, but it was a high-quality movie with an high-quality direction and so may be Biutiful. So, it's possible to see this Mexican director getting a nomination for the Oscar of Best Director for his work in Biutiful.

Debra Granik for Winter's Bone - one of the most acclaimed movies (Winter's Bone) is directed by another female director (Debra Granik). The movie shinned in Sundance and in Berlin and Granik received some of the best reviews of her directing career. An Oscar nod for Best Director seems guaranteed for Granik, but there's the little problem named popularity: Winter's Bone is acclaimed but may not be commercial enough to get a lot of major nods. But there would'nt be the first time an indie production would get more nomination than more bankable productions, so a place between this year's Academy nominee directors is possible for Debra Granik.

Christopher Nolan for Inception - the director of the Summer movie of the year. Nolan is overdue for an Oscar nod for directing after such amazing movies like Memento, Insomnia, The Prestige or The Dark Knight and Inception rules as an high-grossing and highly critically acclaimed movie with an amazing directing work! This year, Nolan's directing work won't be snubed by the Academy, almost for sure.

in consideration: Ben Affleck (The Town); Danny Boyle (127 Hours); Clint Eastwood (Hereafter);
