Today I was surfing in internet when I found some interesting movie news. I know they aren't fresh at all, but I must give my opinion about them.
"I've been to one world fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing I ever heard come over a set of earphones. You sure you got today's Casting Tidbits? First up, Vulture reports that the lovely Scarlett Johansson is interested in heading to Old St. Louis with director David O. Russell and leading actor / producer Vince Vaughn. It's the story of the of a traveling salesman (Vaughn) who has been an absentee father (Vaughn), and how his life changes when his daughter becomes part of his new life. Johansson will take the role of Vaughn's secretary who accompanies him and his daughter on a cross-country sales trip.
Next, Variety reports Stellan Skarsgard (Good Will Hunting, Angels & Demons) will join the cast of the US adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the first book of The Millennium Trilogy which was already adapted in Sweden. Skarsgard will play Martin Vanger, a principal suspects in the 40-year-old disappearance of a teenage girl. The actor said very simply, "I have met [David] Fincher, I want to work with him, he wants to work me. I have had a concrete offer and now we are in negotiations." It doesn't get more clear than that. Now if only we could get final word on who is playing the protagonist Lisbeth.

Well... Let's start with Scarlett wish to go indie again. It seems that she became
an actress who chooses wisely her works since some years ago. She may not do a lot of movies in a year, bit the quality may be higher. David O. Russell has the fame of not being the kind of director whom everybody can work easily (it seems he was in a war with George Clooney if I'm not wrong), but everything he does he does it very well and the role of a secretary/lover of a divorced traveling salesman with a teenage girl seems juicy and maybe her best chance to get an Oscar nod since her role in Match Point. But there's the Gravity problem: the acclaimed director Alfonso Cuaron space epic seems a spectacular project and an unique experience for an actor and there's a schedule clash between Gravity and David O. Russell's Old St. Louis. What would you choose? A role in an ambitions space epic movie that seems to become a blockbuster or a great role in an indie movie that may give you the Oscar nod that will give you glory? The perfect would be she being part of both, but it seems difficult...
Now, let's
look at Stellan Skarsgard role in the U.S. adaptation of the Swedish The Girl With Dragon Tattoo. I don't know what David Fincher has in mind, but Skarsgard seems a little bit psycho for the role of Martin Vanger. I know the character was a psycho guy, but I think he doesn't have that look in the book. But Skarsgard has a great body of work and actors can almost morph themselves in order to look how the character should look. My first thought about this casting choice was that it will be stupid and that Skarsgard is wrong for the part, but now it seems a good choice, which is a proof that we must trust David Fincher almos everytime. Skarsgard is a nice actor and I'm sure that Fincher knows what to do make him shine.
