Amy Adams is heading to Woodstock.
The actress will play Janis Joplin in a biopic of the ‘60s singer, Access Hollywood has confirmed.
A biopic for Janis, who scored such hits as “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Piece of My Heart,” before her career was cut short by a drug overdose at age 27, has long been in the works.
One project, “The Gospel According To Janis,” with Zooey Deschanel attached to star, was in development in the mid-2000s, while a different film, to star Lili Taylor and executive produced by Jonathan Demme, was floated a few years prior. Singer Pink also formerly circled a Janis project, according to Deadline.
The struggle to get the singer’s life on screen was parodied on NBC’s “30 Rock” in a storyline where Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski) was to play a fictionalized version of the star after failing to secure her life-rights.
The new film will be produced by “The Twilight Saga” producer Wyck Godfrey. Deadline reported that the project has yet to find a studio."

Well, I heard something about this project some time ago and the two major contenders to play Janis Joplin were Amy Adams and Zooey Deschanel (and I heard something about Pink to play Janis, I think), but it seems the race has already a winner: Amy Adams.
To be completly honest, I don't know her work very well, but she's an Academy Award nominee actress and it is a proof for somebody that she has talent.
Fernando Meirelles (City of God, The Constant Gardner and Blindness) is attached to direct the movie and it make this even more interesting than the idea itself. My only concern is the Twilight producer, just because these saga's movies aren't very good if we talk artistically, but I can't judge everything people who make some mistakes do.

I hope there'll be a good work. I'm a Janis Joplin's fan (not a big one, but still a fan) and I hope they use Janis' voice in musics instead of the actress' (Janis' voice is remarkable and completly unique!).
